Gujarati movie industry was known for village scenes, lead actor wearing “dhotiyu-kediyu” and heroine in the traditional “saree”. The only actor known to urban audience was Naresh Kanaodiya and actress was Snehlata. Time has changed and Gujarati movies too! In 2011, a young director, Naitik Raval, came with his first Gujarati movie “Chaar”.
Naitik Raval is a film director associated with film and television industry since 2006. After completing his bachelor in Physiotherapy, he did his bachelor in film direction from Zee Institute of Media Arts. He has assisted directors like Paintel, Nadeem Khan, Mohit Suri and Ram Gopal Verma. He was part of FTII short films. Later on he became creative head in serial “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hein” and ended up writing and directing a film named “Chaar” in 2011 which won him awards like best story, best screenplay and best film. He has also acted in TV serial Shakuntala(Star One) as well as Niharika and Chutta Cheda(Etv Gujarati). He personally looks after editing and visual promotion department. He has also started a branch of his production house under the name “Gallops Talkeis”. Here is the brief talk between him and Bhautik Sheth.
Soconse: Tell us about your upcoming project?
Naitik: My upcoming project is titled “JE PAN KAHISH E SACHUJ KAHISH“. It’s a thriller Gujarati film contains story of two characters Dhaval and Leeza. When they meet in the movie, they it’s a regular meet but then it turned out to be the biggest nightmare for lifetime. This film will be one of its kind, the way we have shot it and conceived it, so far this is my best work till date.
Soconse: What is your opinion on current Gujarati movie trend?
Naitik: Currently so many Gujarati movies are being shot/made which was not so few years ago. I t seems as if everyone is in hurry, compromise on story and treatment is visible in so many projects which are coming up these days. People are using camera like Arri alexa and Red epic but when to use which lens? What kind of lighting is to be done? All such important points are being neglected, as a result the end product suffers. I personally believe that Gujarati audience have started coming back to theaters after so long , hence it is our duty to give them new and quality product every time they enter cinema halls.
Soconse: How your movie is different then the other movies released in the recent times?
Naitik: “JE PAN KAHISH E SACHUJ KAHISH” is a thriller movie. So far Gujarati movies are made in Comedy, drama and action genre. The kind of treatment you will find in this film is completely different from current trend. I pay special attention on shot taking. We have tried our best to take care of every aspect of film making including small things like colour of wall, momentum of camera, engrossing background music and so many other such things.
Soconse: Give us one reason for which audience should pay and watch your movie in theaters?
Naitik: One reason if I am supposed to give then it would be Film as a whole. It is complete package of thrill and excitement. It’s not at all just another comedy Gujarati movie. If you are fan of shot taking/ direction, if you love films which will make you stick to the seats until climax of the film, If you are looking for logical and gripping subject rather than slap stick comedy, than this film is for you. “Paisa vasul pakka thavana j chhe!”
(Je Pan Kahish E Sachuj Kahish is under post production and expected to release in September/October 2016 worldwide)
